(assumptions: your head is a 2 dimensional plane with the origin being directly in the centre; and that you want a centre parting, both of which are kinda unrealistic)

All of this is done on paper, each time redrawing the entire thing over and over, so it got a little painstaking. But it was worth it. Once I’ve practised a bit more imma make a proper animated short film, i think.

benoit mandelbrot, the man who invented the word ‘fractal’ and made maths temporarily cool for the public died two days ago at age 85. he was able to create some of the most beautiful images that actually meant something mathematically with his own fractal, the mandelbrot set. he was generally a smart and awesome guy.

here’s a simulation of his set that i made about a year ago:

and boom, like that, i’m animating. early days, but it’s happening.

sorry for the lack of updates though, i’ve been busy applying to universities and writing a top secret program. lots of stuff in the pipe line though :D

i enjoyed making this one slightly too much.

my brother asked for a t-shirt of this, so here it is. i changed it a bit.

it’s a three layer stencil. making the tentacle shadows line up with the tentacles was a pain in the butt. this was my first t-shirt in 11 years so i’m happy how it turned out.

as always, no computers used.
